Šibenik is the oldest native Croatian town on the Adriatic — founded by Croats rather than Greeks or Romans, and first recorded in 1066. It rises in a tangle of stone lanes and stairways above a sheltered bay, guarded by four fortresses and crowned by the Cathedral of St James, a UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece built entirely of stone between 1431 and 1535, ringed by a frieze of 71 carved faces. A second UNESCO site, the St Nicholas Fortress, stands offshore at the mouth of the dramatic St Anthony Channel — the narrow sea gateway every yacht passes through on the way in and out.

Upriver lies Krka National Park, where the Skradinski buk waterfalls tumble through a forested gorge above the town of Skradin, reached by tender or a short transfer. Seaward lies Kornati National Park, a stark archipelago of around 89 islands roughly 15 nautical miles out — under an hour at cruising speed. How do I visit Krka National Park from a yacht charter?
Krka National Park is a short drive or boat ride from Sibenik marina. The crew can arrange a private transfer to the Skradinski Buk entrance, where you can walk the boardwalks past seven cascading waterfalls. Swimming at the base of the falls is permitted in designated areas during summer.
Is Sibenik a good embarkation point?
Yes. Sibenik has a modern marina, is served by Split Airport (1 hour by road) and Zadar Airport (1 hour by road), and offers immediate access to the Kornati archipelago. It is an excellent starting point for northern Dalmatia itineraries.
