Split is the beating heart of the Croatian charter scene, a vibrant, living city built in and around the ancient walls of the Emperor Diocletian’s 4th century palace. Unlike the museum piece old towns of many European cities, Diocletian’s Palace is not a ruin but an inhabited neighbourhood, its marble corridors now lined with cafes, boutiques and galleries. The Riva, Split’s elegant waterfront promenade, is where charter guests step ashore to browse the morning fish market, sip coffee at a harbourside terrace or slip into the labyrinthine streets of the old town.

As the main embarkation port for charters heading to Hvar, Brac, Vis and the southern islands, Split offers the perfect blend of urban culture and nautical convenience. The ACI Marina and the city port can accommodate yachts of all sizes, and provisioning is effortless thanks to the nearby Pazar green market and numerous gourmet suppliers. For guests arriving by air, Split Airport is just 25 minutes from the marina, making same day boarding simple.

Boarding day in Split

A typical charter week starts on a Saturday, with boarding from early afternoon once the crew has finished provisioning, cleaning and preparing the yacht for the new guests. Most first time visitors arrive the night before and spend a few hours walking Diocletian’s Palace before check in, since the marina sits within easy walking distance of the old town. The crew usually asks for arrival details and any dietary preferences a few weeks ahead, so provisioning is already stocked by the time guests step aboard.

A week from Split, two ways

Because Split sits roughly in the middle of the Dalmatian coast, it works as a starting point for routes in either direction. Guests who want the island side of the Adriatic, beach clubs, konobas on Hvar and Vis, and quiet coves for long lunches, tend to follow an itinerary close to our Southern Explorer route: from Split straight to Hvar Town, a day among the Pakleni Islands, across to Vis, then Bol on Brač with its Zlatni Rat beach, the quiet bays of Šolta and a last evening in Stari Grad.

Guests who want more of the southern coast often lean toward our Into the South route, a gourmet itinerary that runs from our base in Šibenik via Bol, Hvar and Vis to the walled town of Korčula, the oyster beds of Mali Ston and the national park on Mljet before returning north. Both routes are built around real anchorages and marina stops our crews use every season, not a generic template, and the exact stops always flex around weather, guest preferences and how long everyone wants to linger in any one place.

Getting there and getting settled

Split Airport (SPU) takes direct flights from most major European cities throughout the charter season, and a private transfer to the marina takes about 25 minutes. Guests coming by road or by ferry from Italy arrive directly into the city centre, a short walk or taxi ride from the marina gates. Because Split is a real, working Croatian city rather than a resort built around tourism, restaurants, pharmacies, tailors and boutiques all operate at local prices and on local hours, which is worth knowing if a guest wants to pick up something specific before boarding.
